WHAT IS SCIENTOLOGY?

Scientology is a religion in its highest meaning, as it helps bring man to total freedom and truth.

The essential tenets of Scientology are these:

You are an immortal spiritual being. Your experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. And your capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized.

Furthermore, man is basically good. He is seeking to survive. And his survival depends upon himself and his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.

Where did these disorders come from? Did they always exist and we never had a way to deal with them in the past? Are they something new as a result of something about our current lifestyles? Is it just a new way to make money? Is it a legalization of drugs that somehow slipped into the medical profession? Is there any validity to taking drugs for your problems or are you masking your problems? Are legal drugs fine to take because they make you feel better? What’s the difference between legal drugs and illegal drugs? Are there any long term negative effects from taking psychotropic medication? Why did Americans pay $11.9 billion for antidepressants, just in the U.S., in 2007? Are there other solutions to taking antidepressants that we don’t even know about? Is it a secret that a placebo is more effective in treating bipolar disorder than an antidepressant? And does that mean that because 20 percent of all antidepressant sales are to treat bipolar disorder that billions of American dollars are spent needlessly? Do people that have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder know how effective antidepressants are to treat it? Does the medical profession accurately explain the side effects of antidepressants for new patients? Do psychiatrists have any other solution for their patients other than prescribing psychiatric medication? Are your “problems” somebody else’s profit? Are consumers really being protected by the medical profession? Are medical students taught anything else but to prescribe drugs? Are there alternate methods for treating “disorders”? Taking psychotropics drugs must work or there wouldn’t be so many people taking it, right? Than why can’t any psychiatrist say they’ve ever cured anyone?

Fifty-one year old Anne, a mother of five, was prescribed antidepressants for bipolar disorder, after experiencing recurrent emotional struggles.  However, her decelerating menstrual cycle was never medically explored and, as was established with a competent physical examination, she really suffered from menopause.

Today, millions of people are wrongly diagnosed with a disorder from the American Psychiatric Associations Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, without ever being properly physically examined or having the disorder scientifically or medically confirmed.  The quick fix drug response to behavioral or emotional problems is turning Aldous Huxleys Brave New World into reality.

Facts:

Studies confirm that undiagnosed and untreated medical conditions manifest as psychiatric symptoms, yet patients presented to a psychiatrist are automatically labeled as mentally ill.  One study determined that 83% of people referred by clinics and social workers to psychiatrists had undiagnosed physical illnesses.

Dr. Loren Mosher, the former head of schizophrenia studies at the National Institute of Mental Health developed a successful non-drug approach to treating schizophrenia. Its success, however, was a threat to a pharmaceutical-run mental health industry and funding was subsequently cut.

In an eight-year study, the World Health Organization found that patients in economically disadvantaged countries that didnt have access to unlimited supplies of psychotropic drugs, fared dramatically better than patients in the U.S. and other developed countries that relied upon psychotropic drugs.  After five years, 64% of the patients in the poor countries were without symptoms of schizophrenia and functioning well.  In contrast, only 18% of the patients in the prosperous countries did well.

Psychiatric drug sales are a $27 billion a year industry in the United States alone, often thwarting any attempts to provide workable medical care for people suffering mental or emotional problems.

In 2000, an enterprising reporter on the Boston Globe, aware that the patent for the billion-dollar-selling anti-depressant drug Prozac was soon to expire, checked to see if an application had been filed for a new version and found that it had. Such applications have to state what the improved benefits of the new drug will be. Among them was this claim: “It will not produce several existing side-effects, including suicidal thoughts and self-mutilation . . . one of its [Prozac’s] more significant side-effects”. Most people recognize the inherent evil in psychiatry, as evidenced by public surveys that list a psychiatrist as the last person they would seek out for help.

But most people have no way of knowing the extent of that evil — that more than 100,000 people die each year in mental institutions, that 20 million children worldwide are on highly addictive mind-altering psychiatric drugs and that every 75 seconds another citizen is incarcerated by psychiatry. Instead, the job of informing the public about the despicable truth of psychiatry — and why it has been labeled an industry of death — has fallen to the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR).

The IAS has long supported the efforts of CCHR, resulting in the distribution of millions of publications that have made psychiatric abuses a focus of public scrutiny and official concern. To help CCHR accomplish its task, the Association funded the establishment of the international headquarters of CCHR in Hollywood, California. The remarkable centerpiece of that facility is CCHR’s museum — Psychiatry: An Industry of Death. With the opening of these new premises in December 2005, the global campaign to bring psychiatry under the law and clean up the entire field of mental health has taken on a whole new dimension — one that makes the obliteration of psychiatric abuse an inevitability.

Since 1992, IAS grants have funded the production and distribution of more than 13 million CCHR booklets, informational pamphlets, investigatory white papers and public advocacy advertisements, as well as two books exposing psychiatry’s abuses and its Nazi past: Psychiatry: The Ultimate Betrayal and Psychiatrists: The Men Behind Hitler.

These IAS-sponsored publications now comprise an extensive library of materials on psychiatric abuses and crimes which CCHR distributes widely. Through these publications, psychiatry’s invasive and destructive influence at all levels of society is well documented: from the false labeling and druggging of children to the abuse of fragile elderly patients with electroshock and heavy mind-damaging drugs.

Most recently, twenty separate booklets were published, covering the broad spectrum of psychiatry’s attempt to subvert society. Each thoroughly researched booklet provides facts and figures and educates readers on the exact results of psychiatric abuse and shows what people can do to protect themselves, their families and their communities.

CCHR Traveling Exhibit

CCHR International’s headquarters in Los Angeles houses a permanent exhibit that displays the deplorable 330- year history of psychiatry, its abuses and failures.

This powerful graphic message is now spreading to major cities around the world with the new traveling CCHR exhibits, which are also funded by grants from the IAS. Presented in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, the modular format accommodates many types of venues, including malls, public buildings and convention halls.

The exhibit walks the visitor through psychiatry’s deathly legacy and the horrors of psychiatric “treatments.” It shows that medical doctors have condemned fraudulent and harmful psychiatric methods.

After being shown at the NAACP national conference in Miami, a unanimous resolution was passed by the leaders of that organization condemning psychiatric drugging.

In Mexico City, the exhibit was presented in the lobby of the House of Representatives. Among the hundreds who toured was a federal legislator who subsequently proposed a law to protect children from psychiatric abuse.

To date, over 380,000 people in more than 160 cities in 17 countries have visited the exhibits. They have walked away with the realization that the public’s low opinion of psychiatry is due to the profession’s continuous and consistent failure to produce a proven result.
